How it is calculated
The three time fields are added into total seconds: T = hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds. The distance is fixed at 10 km. Pace per kilometre is T / 10 seconds, pace per mile is T / (10 / 1.609344) seconds, and speed is 10 / (T / 3600) in km/h. Paces are rounded to the nearest whole second and then shown as minutes:seconds, so a pace never appears as 4:60. You may fill in only some of the fields; empty ones count as zero. A total of zero gives no result.
Worked example
Goal: 0 h 52 min 30 s. Total time is 52 × 60 + 30 = 3150 seconds. Per kilometre: 3150 / 10 = 315 s, which is 5:15 /km. Per mile: 3150 / 6.21371 = 506.9 s, rounded to 507 s, which is 8:27 /mi. Speed: 10 / (3150 / 3600) = 11.43 km/h. So you need to hold 5:15 for every kilometre to finish in 52:30.
Common mistakes
- Typing the finish time as 52.30 in the minutes box. Decimals are read as fractions of a minute, so use 52 in minutes and 30 in seconds.
- Entering the pace you want rather than the finish time. This tool takes the total 10K time and returns the pace.
- Comparing the per-km and per-mile figures directly. 5:15 /km and 8:27 /mi are the same effort; a mile is 1.609 km.
- Treating the result as a pace for the whole race when you plan a slower start. It is the even-split average only.
About this calculator
This calculator applies the same time, pace, and distance relationship as a 5K pace calculator but scaled to the 10 kilometer distance, converting between a target finish time and the per-kilometer or per-mile pace needed to reach it. Because a 10K takes roughly twice as long as a 5K, pacing tends to matter even more, since even small pace misjudgments compound over a longer race.
Runners preparing for a 10K use it to set a realistic goal pace based on current fitness, to plan even or negative split strategies across the race, and to work out checkpoint times at each kilometer or mile marker so they can judge whether they're on track partway through.

A 10K is 25 laps of a standard 400 m track, which helps with training. Multiply the per-kilometre pace by 0.4 to get the lap time: the 5:15 pace from our 52:30 example is 126 seconds, or 2:06, per lap. Displayed paces are rounded to the whole second, so ten of them can differ from your goal by a few seconds. What finish time are you chasing?
