Salary Converter (Hourly to Annual)
What does my hourly wage earn per year?
Result
How it is calculated
The wage is first converted to an annual figure, and every other period is derived from it. A year is taken as 52 weeks. Hours per year = hours per week × 52 and days per year = days per week × 52. Annual pay is hourly × hours per year, daily × days per year, weekly × 52, monthly × 12, or the yearly amount as entered. Then hourly = annual / hours per year, daily = annual / days per year, weekly = annual / 52, monthly = annual / 12. Paid leave, holidays, overtime and tax are not modelled, so the figures are gross and based purely on the schedule you enter.
Worked example
A job pays 25 per hour for 40 hours a week over 5 days. Hours per year = 40 × 52 = 2,080, so annual pay = 25 × 2,080 = 52,000 (shown as $52,000.00). Daily = 52,000 / (5 × 52) = $200.00. Weekly = 52,000 / 52 = $1,000.00. Monthly = 52,000 / 12 = $4,333.33. The hourly figure shown is $25.00.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the default hours per week when the contract says otherwise; a 45-hour week changes every converted number.
- Expecting 4 weeks per month. The tool uses 52 weeks / 12 months, about 4.33 weeks.
- Treating the output as take-home pay. It is gross and includes no tax or deductions.
- Choosing the wrong pay period for the amount, such as entering a monthly salary while hourly is selected.

About this calculator
This converter takes a wage expressed in any one time unit — hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annual — and recalculates it across all the others, using the hours per week and days per week you enter, plus a standard 52-week year, to bridge between them. It answers the simple but often unclear question of what an hourly rate actually adds up to across a full year, or what an annual salary breaks down to per hour of work.
Job seekers use it to compare offers quoted in different formats, such as comparing an hourly contract rate against a salaried position advertised as an annual figure, and freelancers use it to translate a target annual income into the hourly rate they need to charge. It is also useful for budgeting, since knowing the monthly or weekly equivalent of a wage makes it far easier to plan recurring expenses than working from an abstract annual number alone.

The conversion treats every one of the 52 weeks as paid. If you will take unpaid weeks, for example as a contractor, scale the weekly hours to match: 40 hours across 48 working weeks is about 36.92 hours a week in the box, which gives the annual figure you would really earn. The numbers are gross, before tax. Which two offers are you comparing, and are they quoted per hour, per month or per year?
