Date Calculator (Add/Subtract)
How do I add days to a date?
Result
How it is calculated
The tool builds one interval from the years, months and days you enter and adds it to (or subtracts it from) the start date: result = date ± (Y years + M months + D days). The sign of each number is ignored, because the Add/Subtract choice decides the direction. Decimals are cut to whole numbers and empty fields count as 0. Years and months are applied first and the days afterwards. When a month is shorter than the day of the month you started on, the extra days spill into the next month (31 January plus one month lands in early March, not on 28 February). The result is shown as a date together with its weekday.
Worked example
Start date 2025-01-31, add 0 years, 1 month and 10 days. Adding one month gives 31 February, which does not exist, so the date rolls over three days into March and becomes 3 March 2025. Adding the 10 days then gives March 13, 2025, which falls on a Thursday. Had you added 40 days instead of 1 month and 10 days, the answer would have been 2025-03-12, so the order of months and days matters near month ends.
Common mistakes
- Typing a negative number to go backwards. The sign is ignored; switch the operation to Subtract instead.
- Expecting "plus one month" from the 31st to land on the last day of the next month. Short months overflow into the following month.
- Entering weeks as days or the other way round: there is no week field, so 3 weeks must be entered as 21 days.
- Entering decimals such as 1.5 months. Fractions are dropped, so 1.5 becomes 1.
About this calculator
This calculator adds or subtracts a chosen number of days, months and years from a starting date and returns both the resulting calendar date and its weekday, correctly handling month-length differences and leap years along the way (adding a month to January 31 doesn't simply land on February 31, which doesn't exist). Manual date arithmetic is deceptively error-prone once leap years and varying month lengths are involved.
It's used for figuring out contract or warranty end dates, project deadlines a fixed number of working days or months out, an event date a certain number of weeks before or after another, or simply what weekday a future or past date fell on. Anyone planning around a fixed offset from a known date — rather than a fixed target date — reaches for this instead of counting on a calendar by hand.

Month arithmetic can surprise you near the end of a month. Adding one month to 31 January 2027 does not land on 28 February; the calendar overflows and you end up in early March. The tool counts calendar days, not business days, and negative numbers are treated as positive, so use the Subtract option to go backwards. Would working days or public holidays be worth adding here? Say which.
