Goal Weight Timeline Calculator
When will I reach my goal weight?
Result
How it is calculated
The tool assumes that 1 kg of body weight corresponds to about 7,700 kcal. Energy to lose: E = (current − goal) × 7700. Days needed: days = E / deficit, where the deficit is the kcal per day you stay below maintenance. Weeks are days / 7, and the expected weekly loss is deficit × 7 / 7700 kg.
Days are rounded up to a whole day. Weights are in kg (same unit for both fields), and all three values must be positive. If the goal is equal to or above the current weight, the tool shows an invalid-goal message instead of a timeline. The model is linear; real weight loss usually slows as the body adapts.
Worked example
Current 85 kg, goal 78 kg, deficit 500 kcal/day. Weight to lose = 7 kg, so 7 × 7700 = 53,900 kcal. Days = 53,900 / 500 = 107.8, rounded up to 108. Weeks = 107.8 / 7 = 15.40. Weekly loss = 500 × 7 / 7700 = 0.45 kg. The tool shows 15.40 weeks, 108 days and 0.45 kg.
Common mistakes
- Entering the total deficit for the week instead of per day, which stretches the timeline sevenfold.
- Mixing pounds and kilograms across the two weight fields.
- Entering your daily calorie intake rather than the gap below your maintenance calories.
- Expecting a steady straight line: the 7,700 kcal rule is an approximation, and the real pace tends to drop over time.

About this calculator
This calculator translates a daily calorie deficit into a timeline: given your current weight, goal weight and how many calories below maintenance you eat each day, it estimates how many days or weeks it will take to get there. It's built on the widely used approximation that roughly 7,700 kcal of cumulative deficit corresponds to one kilogram of body weight lost, so the daily deficit you enter gets converted directly into a rate of weight loss per week.
People starting a diet use it to set a realistic, sustainable target rather than guessing — a very large deficit finishes faster on paper but is harder to maintain and more likely to cost muscle along with fat, while a modest deficit takes longer but is easier to stick to. It's also useful for checking whether a goal date (an event, a trip, a competition) is actually achievable at a safe rate of loss.

The timeline is a straight line built on a fixed 7700 kcal per kilogram and a deficit that never changes. In practice your maintenance needs fall as you get lighter, so later kilos tend to take longer than the early ones. Treat the weeks as a rough planning figure and re-run it with your updated weight now and then. A goal weight above your current one shows a message instead. Is your deficit measured against estimated maintenance calories?
