Macro Split Calculator
Turn your calorie target into macro grams.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool turns a calorie target into grams using the standard energy values of 4 kcal per gram for protein and carbohydrate and 9 kcal per gram for fat: protein g = kcal × protein% ÷ 100 ÷ 4, carbs g = kcal × carb% ÷ 100 ÷ 4, fat g = kcal × fat% ÷ 100 ÷ 9. Enter daily calories (kcal, above zero) and the three percentages of calories. The tool does not force the three percentages to total 100; if they add up to more or less, the grams simply follow what you typed, so check the sum yourself. Results are rounded to one decimal.
Worked example
Target 2,400 kcal with a 30/40/30 split. Protein: 2,400 × 0.30 = 720 kcal, ÷ 4 = 180 g. Carbohydrate: 2,400 × 0.40 = 960 kcal, ÷ 4 = 240 g. Fat: 2,400 × 0.30 = 720 kcal, ÷ 9 = 80 g. The tool shows protein 180.0 g, carbs 240.0 g and fat 80.0 g.
Common mistakes
- Percentages that do not add up to 100. 30 + 40 + 40 would silently over-allocate calories, since the tool does not warn you.
- Entering grams instead of percentages in the percentage fields. They are shares of total calories, not weights.
- Dividing fat by 4 as well. Fat has 9 kcal per gram, so the same percentage gives fewer grams of fat than of protein.
- Using the split as a body-weight target. A percentage split ignores body size, so a 30% protein share can be too little or too much in grams for a given person.
- Forgetting that alcohol and fibre are not covered. The three macros are assumed to make up all the calories.

About this calculator
This calculator converts a daily calorie target into grams of protein, carbohydrates and fat based on a chosen percentage split (for example the popular 40/30/30 or 30/40/30 splits). It uses the standard caloric values of each macronutrient — protein and carbohydrates each provide about 4 calories per gram, while fat provides about 9 calories per gram — so grams = (total calories × macro percentage) ÷ calories per gram for that macro.
Bodybuilders, dieters and anyone following a structured nutrition plan (keto, high-protein, balanced/flexible dieting) use macro splits to translate an abstract calorie goal into a concrete, trackable grocery and meal-prep target. Different goals call for different splits — higher protein for muscle retention during a cut, higher fat for ketogenic diets, higher carbs for endurance athletes — and this calculator lets you plug in any percentage combination to see exactly how many grams of each macro that implies.

The three percentages are not forced to add up to 100, so a split like 40/40/30 will quietly return grams for 110 percent of your calories. Check the sum yourself before using the numbers. Grams come from 4 kcal per gram for protein and carbohydrate and 9 for fat; alcohol and fibre are not modelled. The result is a planning split, not a prescription, and a dietitian can tailor it. Which split do you start from?
