Whipped Cream Calculator
See how much whipped cream and sugar you get from any amount of heavy cream — it roughly doubles.
Result
How it is calculated
You enter the amount of liquid cream in millilitres. The tool applies three fixed rules: whipped volume = cream × 2, sugar = cream × 0.1 (grams, so 10 g per 100 ml of liquid cream), and servings = whipped volume / 60, where one serving is taken as 60 ml of whipped cream. Volumes and sugar are rounded to whole numbers, servings to one decimal.
The cream amount must be greater than zero. The doubling factor and the sugar share are typical rule-of-thumb values built into the tool; they are not read from your recipe. Real yield depends on the fat content of the cream, its temperature and how long you whip, so treat the numbers as a planning estimate and adjust sugar to taste.
Worked example
You have 250 ml of liquid cream. Whipped volume: 250 × 2 = 500 ml. Sugar at 10% of the cream volume: 250 × 0.1 = 25 g. Servings of 60 ml each: 500 / 60 = 8.3. So 250 ml of cream makes about 500 ml of topping, enough for roughly eight portions, sweetened with 25 g of sugar.
Common mistakes
- Entering the amount in grams or in cups; the field is millilitres of liquid cream, so one cup (about 240 ml) must be converted first.
- Entering the whipped amount you want instead of the cream you start with; to get 500 ml of topping, enter 250.
- Using cream with low fat, such as single or cooking cream, which does not whip to double volume and may not hold peaks at all.
- Adding sugar before the cream is cold enough or over-whipping past stiff peaks, which turns it grainy; the tool's volume figure assumes a properly whipped result.
- Expecting servings to match your portion size; the 60 ml per serving is fixed, so scale the count if you plate larger dollops.
About this calculator
Heavy cream (36–40% butterfat) roughly doubles in volume when whipped, since the whisking action traps air bubbles that are stabilized by the fat globules and milk proteins coating them — a cup of liquid cream yields roughly two cups of whipped cream. A common sweetening ratio is about 2 tablespoons of sugar per cup of cream, though this calculator scales both the whipped yield and the sugar proportionally to whatever amount of cream you start with.
Bakers and pastry cooks use this doubling rule to plan how much heavy cream to buy for a given amount of finished whipped topping — for cake frosting, pie topping, or piped garnishes — without over- or under-shooting the recipe. It's also useful for scaling a recipe up or down, since the whipped-to-liquid ratio stays roughly constant regardless of batch size, as long as the cream is cold and has enough fat content to whip properly.

Work backwards from the number of portions. For eight servings at the tool's 60 ml each you need 480 ml of whipped topping, so start with 240 ml of liquid cream and about 24 g of sugar. The doubling is a rule of thumb for full-fat cream; lighter cream will land below it. What do you usually serve the cream with, and how big is your portion?
