Coffee Scoop to Gram Converter
Enter the number of scoops to convert your coffee to grams.

How it is calculated
Enter the number of scoops and, optionally, how many grams one of your scoops holds (gper). The tool computes:
grams = scoops × grams per scoopounces = grams / 28.3495tablespoons = grams / 5
If the grams-per-scoop field is empty, zero or negative, it falls back to 10 g, the size of a standard coffee scoop. The tablespoon figure assumes about 5 g of ground coffee per level tablespoon, which varies with grind and roast. Grams and tablespoons are shown to one decimal and ounces to two. Your own scoop can be weighed once on a kitchen scale for a more reliable value.
Worked example
You use 3 scoops, and your scoop was weighed at 7.5 g of ground coffee. Grams = 3 × 7.5 = 22.5 g. Ounces = 22.5 / 28.3495 = 0.79 oz. Tablespoons = 22.5 / 5 = 4.5 tbsp. If you left the scoop size blank, the tool would assume 10 g per scoop and give 30.0 g instead.
Common mistakes
- Leaving grams per scoop empty and assuming it uses your own scoop; it silently uses 10 g, which may be far from the real size.
- Entering 0 for the scoop size expecting a zero result. Zero is treated as missing and replaced with 10 g.
- Treating all scoops as equal. A heaped scoop holds noticeably more coffee than a level one, and ground coffee is lighter than whole beans by volume.
- Using the tablespoon figure as exact; it assumes 5 g per level tablespoon, and fine and coarse grinds weigh differently.
- Confusing ounces of weight with fluid ounces of water when working out the brew ratio.
About this calculator
A standard coffee scoop holds about 10 grams of ground coffee — roughly two level tablespoons — which is the reference value most coffee brands and the Specialty Coffee Association use when writing "1 scoop per cup" on a bag. This converter multiplies your scoop count by that standard (or a custom grams-per-scoop value if your scoop is oversized or your coffee is a different grind) to give you a precise weight in grams and ounces.
Getting the gram figure right matters because brew strength depends on the coffee-to-water ratio, not the scoop count — a golden-ratio pour-over around 1:16 or 1:17 by weight only works if you know the actual grams going in. Home baristas use this to dial in a consistent cup with a kitchen scale, while café owners and roasters use it to standardize recipes across staff and equipment where scoop sizes vary.

Once you have the grams, the water follows from your preferred ratio. At 1:16, the 22.5 g from three 7.5 g scoops pairs with 360 g of water. Dark roasts are lighter by volume than light roasts, so the same scoop can weigh less. Weigh your own scoop once with each coffee you buy. What ratio do you brew at?
