Net Payout Calculator

Enter the gross amount, fee percentage, and other deductions to find the net payout.

How it is calculated

The tool takes one percentage fee and one fixed deduction off a gross amount: deductions = gross × fee% / 100 + other, then net = gross − deductions. It also shows the net as a share of the gross, net / gross × 100. Gross and other deductions are in dollars and the fee is a percentage of the gross, not of what is left. The fee is applied once, to the full gross amount. Gross must be above zero; the fee and the fixed deduction may be 0 but cannot be blank or negative. If the deductions are larger than the gross, the net is shown as a negative number rather than stopping. For several fees, add the percentages together and the fixed amounts together first.

Worked example

A freelancer invoices $1,200. The platform takes 10% and there is a flat $15 withdrawal fee. Percentage fee: 1,200 × 10 / 100 = $120.00. Total deductions: 120 + 15 = $135.00. Net payout: 1,200 − 135 = $1,065.00. As a share of the gross, 1,065 / 1,200 × 100 = 88.75%. So about 11.25 cents of each gross dollar goes on costs.

Common mistakes

  • Entering the fee as a decimal. 0.10 is read as 0.10%, which would make the deductions almost nothing; type 10 for ten percent.
  • Putting a percentage deduction in the fixed-deductions field, or a fixed fee in the percentage field. The first is per cent of the gross; the second is a dollar amount taken once.
  • Compounding fees by hand. With a 3% processor fee and a 10% platform fee, the simple tool takes 13% of the gross, whereas some platforms take the second fee from what is left after the first. Check how your platform calculates.
  • Forgetting that a fixed fee per transaction is charged on each payment. For several payments, either run each one or multiply the fixed fee by the count.
  • Ignoring taxes. Net payout is the amount you receive before income tax, sales tax or VAT that you may owe.

About this calculator

Net payout is the amount that actually lands in your account after a gross amount has deductions taken out — typically a percentage fee (like a platform or processing commission) plus any fixed deductions (flat transaction fees, withdrawal fees, or similar charges): net payout = gross × (1 − fee%) − fixed deductions.

Freelancers on platforms like Upwork, sellers on marketplaces like Etsy or Amazon, and anyone accepting payments through a processor need this math to know what they’ll actually receive versus what a buyer paid, since the headline sale price and the deposited amount are rarely the same.
