Currency to Country
Look up the countries that use a currency.
Result
How it is calculated
This is a reverse lookup: you give a three-letter ISO 4217 currency code and the tool lists every country or territory in its built-in country table that has that code as its currency. The code is trimmed and upper-cased, so "eur" and " EUR " work the same. Matches are sorted alphabetically and counted. If no entry uses the code, or the box is empty, there is no result. No arithmetic is involved. Remember that the list reflects the stored table: currencies get adopted or dropped over time, and some codes are shared by several places, as the euro and the US dollar are.
Worked example
Enter the code EUR. The tool scans the table, collects every entry whose currency is EUR and sorts the names: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia and so on through to Åland Islands. It counts 36 entries in total. The list includes overseas territories such as French Guiana, Guadeloupe and Martinique, plus countries like Kosovo and Montenegro that use the euro without being members of the eurozone.
Common mistakes
- Typing the currency name ("euro", "dollar") or a symbol. Only the three-letter code, such as EUR or USD, is matched.
- Using a country code like TR or US instead of the currency code TRY or USD.
- Expecting a code to belong to one country. Many codes, including EUR and USD, are shared by countries and territories.
- Assuming everyone in the list is an official member of a currency union; some places simply use the currency.
About this calculator
This tool looks up which countries officially use a given ISO 4217 currency code — the three-letter standard used worldwide for identifying currencies (like USD, EUR, or JPY). Some codes map to a single country (JPY → Japan), while others are shared across many — EUR is legal tender in the 21 eurozone countries, and USD is used or accepted as an official/secondary currency in a number of countries and territories beyond the United States, such as Ecuador and El Salvador.
Travelers, importers/exporters, currency traders, and developers building payment or e-commerce systems use this kind of lookup to confirm which markets a currency code applies to, to disambiguate currencies that share a name but not a code (like the several historical currencies called "dollar" or "franc"), and to correctly map currency codes to country-specific tax, pricing, or shipping rules.

Codes starting with X are usually shared by whole groups of countries: in the built-in table XOF lists 8 entries, XAF 6 and XCD 8, so a currency code is not a one-to-one pointer to a country. This is handy before pricing for a region, or when a payment form returns only the currency. The list follows the stored table, so recent changes of currency may not be in it yet. Which currency code gave you a result that surprised you?
