Relative Strength Calculator
See how strong you are pound-for-pound.

How it is calculated
The tool divides the weight you lifted by your body weight: ratio = lift / bodyweight. Both numbers must be in the same unit (both kg or both lb), so the unit cancels out and the ratio is a plain multiple, shown to two decimals with an "x", for example 2.13x. It does not apply any bodyweight correction such as Wilks or DOTS; it is a simple ratio. Both inputs must be greater than zero. The tool accepts any positive numbers and does not warn about values that are physically unrealistic, so a typing slip shows up as a huge or tiny ratio instead of an error. The lift can be a one-rep max or the heaviest set you did; the ratio only describes the number you entered.
Worked example
A lifter with a body weight of 82 kg deadlifts 175 kg. Ratio: 175 / 82 = 2.1341, which the tool rounds to 2.13 and shows as 2.13x. So the lift is about 2.13 times body weight. If the same lifter gains 3 kg and the deadlift stays at 175, the ratio drops to 175 / 85 = 2.06, which shows that relative strength falls when body weight rises without a stronger lift.
Common mistakes
- Mixing units, for example a lift in pounds divided by body weight in kilograms. The ratio then comes out about 2.2 times too high, so use the same unit for both.
- Entering the weight of a rep-max set but calling it a max. A 175 kg set of 5 is not a 175 kg one-rep max; the ratio would understate your true max-based number.
- Dividing the combined total of three lifts by body weight and comparing the result with single-lift standards. Use one lift at a time or compare totals only with totals.
- Comparing ratios between very light and very heavy lifters as a verdict on who is stronger. The ratio favours light lifters, which is why competitions use bodyweight-adjusted formulas.
- Entering the weight of the bar plus plates incorrectly, for instance forgetting the bar. The ratio is only as accurate as the loaded weight you type.
About this calculator
Relative strength expresses how strong you are relative to your own body weight rather than in absolute terms: divide your best lift (say, your one-rep max squat or deadlift) by your body weight to get a ratio, such as 1.5x bodyweight. This lets you compare strength meaningfully across people of very different sizes, since a 200 kg deadlift means something very different for a 70 kg lifter than for a 140 kg lifter.
Powerlifters and strength coaches use relative-strength ratios as a quick, low-math alternative to full formulas like Wilks or DOTS when comparing lifters across weight classes, and CrossFit and general strength-training programs publish bodyweight-ratio standards (such as squatting 1.5x bodyweight or bench pressing 1x bodyweight) as benchmarks athletes can aim for regardless of their size. It is also a practical way for an individual lifter to track real strength progress independent of any bodyweight gained or lost during a training block.
