GPA Calculator
Find your GPA from grades and credit hours.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool computes a credit-weighted average: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) / Σ(credits). Enter up to five courses, each with its grade-point value (for instance 4.0 for A on a 4.0 scale) and its credit hours. A row counts only when both the grade and a credit value above zero are filled in; incomplete rows are skipped. It shows the GPA to two decimals and the total credits counted. Because of the weighting, a 4-credit course moves the average more than a 1-credit one. The tool does not convert letter grades, so you must enter points yourself, and schools differ in their scale (4.0, 5.0, 10 or 100), in handling of plus/minus grades and in repeated courses.
Worked example
Four courses: 4.0 in a 3-credit course, 3.0 in a 4-credit course, 3.5 in a 3-credit course and 2.0 in a 2-credit course. Grade points × credits: 12 + 12 + 10.5 + 4 = 38.5. Total credits: 3 + 4 + 3 + 2 = 12. GPA = 38.5 / 12 = 3.21. A simple average of the four grades would give 3.13, so weighting makes a real difference.
Common mistakes
- Typing letter grades like A or B+ instead of their numeric grade points.
- Averaging the grades without credits, which treats a 1-credit lab like a 4-credit course.
- Using the 4.0 scale values on a school that grades out of 5.0 or 100 (or the reverse) and comparing the results.
- Entering credits as zero or leaving them out, which causes that course to be silently skipped.
- Adding more than five courses; only the first five rows are considered.
About this calculator
This calculator converts letter or numeric grades into grade points, weights each course by its credit hours, and averages the results to produce a single grade point average. Because a three-credit course counts more toward the average than a one-credit course, the weighting step matters just as much as the grade-to-point conversion itself.
Students use it every term to check where they stand before final grades post, to see how a hypothetical exam score would move their overall average, or to plan how many high grades they'd need in remaining courses to hit a target GPA for a scholarship or program requirement.

The form holds five courses, but a longer record is easy to handle. Enter your earlier cumulative GPA as one grade and the credits behind it as that row's credit value, then add the new courses in the other rows. Because the average is credit-weighted, this gives the same answer as listing every course. Use the grade-point scale your school uses and do not mix scales. Which grading scale does your school apply?
