Etsy Seller Fee Calculator

Enter your item price and shipping to see your Etsy fees and net payout.

How it is calculated

The tool adds three fees on one sale. A listing fee of $0.20. A transaction fee of 6.5% of price + shipping. A payment processing fee of pay % × (price + shipping) + fixed amount; if you leave those two fields empty it uses 3% and $0.25. total fees = listing + transaction + processing, net = price + shipping − total fees and effective rate = total fees / (price + shipping) × 100. Price must be above zero and shipping is required (enter 0 for free shipping). The listing fee, the 6.5% rate and the payment rate depend on the seller's country and Etsy's current terms, so check your own account. Gift-wrap charges, taxes, ads and your product cost are not included.

Worked example

An item sells for $35 with $5 shipping, so the fee base is 35 + 5 = $40. The listing fee is $0.20. The transaction fee is 6.5% of 40 = $2.60. Payment processing with the default 3% plus $0.25 is 0.03 × 40 + 0.25 = $1.45. Total fees are 0.20 + 2.60 + 1.45 = $4.25. What is left is 40 − 4.25 = $35.75, and the effective fee rate is 4.25 / 40 = 10.63% of what the buyer paid.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the shipping box empty on a free-shipping item. The tool requires a number, and if shipping is charged to the buyer the 6.5% and the payment fee apply to it as well, so do not leave it out.
  • Treating the net as profit. It is only what remains after fees; your materials, postage you pay, labour and any ads still have to come off it.
  • Forgetting the fixed part of the payment fee. On a cheap item the fixed $0.25 plus the $0.20 listing fee weigh far more than the percentages, so the effective rate is much higher.
  • Assuming the default percentages apply in your country. Payment processing rates and fixed amounts vary by country, so enter yours in the two payment fields.
  • Counting the listing fee on every sale. It is a per-listing charge, and the tool adds it once per sale as a simple estimate.

About this calculator

Selling on Etsy involves several stacked fees that eat into the sale price before a seller sees their payout: a flat listing fee (currently $0.20 per item, charged every four months or on each sale), a 6.5% transaction fee charged on the item price plus shipping (Etsy also charges it on any gift-wrap charge, which this calculator has no separate field for, so add it to the shipping amount), and a payment processing fee that varies by country (in the US, typically around 3% plus a fixed $0.25 per order, which are the defaults here).

Because these fees stack on top of each other rather than adding up to a round number, sellers often underestimate their true costs when pricing items — this calculator simply adds the listing, transaction and payment fees on a given sale to show the net payout you actually keep and the effective fee rate as a percentage of the sale, which is useful for pricing products profitably and comparing Etsy’s take against other marketplaces.

Note that the transaction and payment fees apply to the item price plus shipping, not to the item alone. In the default case that is 50 charged, so fees come to 5.20 and 44.80 is left, an effective 10.4 percent. Because the listing fee is flat, the share rises on a low-priced item. Compare your payment rate with a recent statement and tell us which fee line differs from what the tool assumes.
