Calories Per Meal Calculator
Find how many calories per meal.
Result
How it is calculated
The daily calorie figure is divided equally by the number of meals:
calories per meal = daily calories / number of meals
Enter your total for the whole day in kcal and how many meals you eat, snacks included if you want them counted as meals. The answer is rounded to a whole number of kcal. The number of meals must be greater than zero. Every meal gets the same share: the tool does not weight a bigger dinner against a lighter breakfast, so for an uneven plan multiply the result by your own proportions. It does not estimate your daily need; that figure comes from you or from a separate calorie calculator.
Worked example
A daily target of 2200 kcal eaten as 3 meals.
- 2200 / 3 = 733.33
- Rounded to a whole number: 733 kcal per meal
With 4 meals instead, each would be 550 kcal. If you want a bigger dinner, take 40 % of 2200, which is 880 kcal, and share the rest between the others.
Common mistakes
- Entering kilojoules instead of kcal: 1 kcal is about 4.18 kJ, so a kJ value gives a figure more than four times too large.
- Counting snacks as extra on top of the meals: if you include them in the meal count, the daily total is spread across them too.
- Expecting a different split for breakfast and dinner: every meal gets an equal share here.
- Entering a weekly total: the calculation is for one day.
About this calculator
This calculator splits a total daily calorie target evenly across a chosen number of meals, turning one abstract daily number into concrete per-meal targets.
People following a structured meal plan, macro-tracking diet, or intermittent fasting schedule use it to know roughly how many calories to build each meal around, and it's often used alongside a broader daily calorie or TDEE calculator rather than as a standalone number.

Results are rounded to whole kilocalories, so the meals can add up slightly differently from your target: 2000 split over 3 meals shows 667 kcal each, which is 2001 across the day. That one-calorie gap is rounding, not an error. If you want snacks smaller than meals, take their calories off the daily total first and split only the remainder. How do you divide your day: even meals, or one big meal and small ones?
