How it is calculated

A plot is described as 8 bigha. Acres: 8 × 0.625 = 5.00 ac. Square metres: 5 × 4,046.8564 = 20,234.28 m², which is about 2.02 hectares. If the local bigha is smaller, for example about half this size, the true area would be roughly half of this result, which is why the local definition matters.

    Check the paperwork before trusting any bigha figure. Land records often state area in square metres, hectares or acres next to the local units, and if they do, use that printed figure instead of converting. The error is large: if your district's bigha is 0.25 acre but the tool assumes 0.625, it overstates the area by 2.5 times.
