How it is calculated

The tool multiplies the sales you referred by the commission rate: commission = referred sales × commission % ÷ 100. Referred sales is a money amount in dollars, the total value of the purchases that came through your link, not a count of orders. Commission % is the percentage your program pays, so type 7.5 for 7.5%. The tool also shows per 100 of sales, which is simply the rate expressed as dollars earned on every 100 sold, handy for comparing programs. Sales cannot be negative and the rate must be between 0 and 100; anything outside that range shows no result. It handles percentage-of-sale programs only. A flat fee per signup or per action has to be worked out separately, and it does not model tiers, cookie windows, refunds or chargebacks.

Worked example

Over a month, purchases worth 12000 came through your referral links and the program pays 7.5%. Step 1: convert the rate: 7.5 ÷ 100 = 0.075. Step 2: 12000 × 0.075 = $900.00 in commission. Step 3: the per-100 figure is $7.50, meaning every 100 of referred sales earns you 7.50. A program paying 10% on the same sales would earn $1,200.00, so comparing rates matters.

Common mistakes

  • Entering the number of referred orders in the sales field. It expects the money value of those orders, so 40 orders of 300 each is 12000.
  • Typing the rate as 0.075. The field is a percentage, so that is 0.075%.
  • Entering a rate above 100, for example 750 for 7.5%. Rates over 100 give no result at all, so check the decimal point.
  • Counting sales that will later be refunded or cancelled. Most programs pay only on completed, non-returned sales, so the real figure is lower.
  • Comparing a percentage program with a flat-fee program by percent alone. Work the flat fee into an equivalent percentage of the average order first.

About this calculator

Affiliate marketing pays a commission — usually a percentage of the sale price, sometimes a flat fee per action — to whoever refers a customer that completes a purchase. This calculator multiplies the total amount of your referred sales by your commission percentage to show exactly how much a given campaign, link, or promotion earned.

Content creators, bloggers, and influencers use this to project earnings before committing to a promotion and to compare percentage-based offers across different affiliate programs that pay different rates. It handles percentage commissions only; for a flat bounty per signup, simply multiply the fee by the number of signups yourself. It's also the same math merchants and affiliate networks use on the other side to budget commission payouts against expected referred sales volume.
