Reverse Number Calculator
Flip a number’s digits back to front and get the reversed number plus its digit count.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool works on the digits exactly as you typed them, so there is no rounding even for 19-digit numbers. It drops the sign and any leading zeros, writes the digits out, reads them backwards and strips the zeros that end up at the front: 48200 becomes 00284, shown as 284. The reversed value is grouped with thousands separators, and the digit count is the number of digits you entered, trailing zeros included. Only whole numbers are accepted: a minus sign is ignored (−1230 gives 321), while a value with a fractional part such as 12.9 shows no result. Both the number and its reverse must fit within 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, so a 19-digit number whose reverse is larger than that, such as 1234567890123456789, also shows no result.
Worked example
Enter 48200. The digits in order are 4, 8, 2, 0, 0, which makes 5 digits. Read backwards they are 0, 0, 2, 8, 4, giving the string 00284. With the leading zeros removed, the reversed number is 284. The tool therefore shows a reversed value of 284 and a digit count of 5. Notice that the two trailing zeros of the original did not survive as zeros in the answer.
Common mistakes
- Expecting leading zeros in the answer. 100 reverses to 1, not 001, because the result is a number and not a text string.
- Entering a negative number and expecting a negative result. The sign is ignored, so −1230 and 1230 both give 321.
- Entering a decimal such as 12.9 and expecting 9.21. A number with a fractional part is rejected and shows no result; type the whole number only.
- Pasting a very long number such as a 20-digit ID or card number. Anything above 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, or whose reverse is above it, shows no result; the tool does not truncate it.
- Using the digit count as the count of significant digits. It counts every digit you typed, including trailing zeros.
About this calculator
Reversing a number simply flips its digit order back to front — 6321 becomes 1236, and a number like 7 stays 7 since a single digit has nothing to reverse. Leading zeros in the reversed result are dropped, so 100 reversed becomes 1, not 001.
It’s a staple beginner exercise in programming courses for practicing loops, modulo, and integer division, but the same operation underlies genuinely useful checks: a palindrome number (like 12321) is one that equals its own reverse, and testing for that is exactly how palindrome-detection algorithms work. Recreational mathematicians also use repeated reverse-and-add cycles (n + reverse(n), repeated) to search for palindromic numbers, and to study the unsolved cases known as Lychrel numbers that never seem to produce one no matter how many iterations are tried.
Both the number and its reverse must fit within 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, and the digit count of the original is shown too.
