Prorated Salary Calculator
Find prorated pay for a partial work period.
Result
How it is calculated
Prorated pay is a share of the yearly salary based on days worked: daily rate = annual salary / working days in the year and prorated pay = daily rate × days worked. If the working days field is empty or not positive, 260 is used, which is five days a week for 52 weeks. Days worked cannot exceed the total, so a larger number is capped at it. Salary and days worked must not be negative. The tool shows both the daily rate and the prorated pay. It is a gross figure that does not include tax, deductions or unpaid holidays, and employers may use a different day count such as calendar days or 30-day months.
Worked example
An annual salary of 60,000 with 130 days worked out of 260. Daily rate = 60,000 / 260 = 230.77. Prorated pay = 230.77 × 130 = $30,000.00, exactly half of the year because 130 is half of 260. The daily rate shown is $230.77.
Common mistakes
- Using calendar days (365) for the year but working days for the days worked, or the other way round.
- Counting public holidays as days not worked when the contract pays them.
- Entering the monthly salary in the annual field.
- Reading the result as take-home pay: it is gross, before tax and contributions.
- Assuming every employer uses 260; some use 30-day months or the actual working days of the year.

About this calculator
This calculator finds prorated pay for a partial work period, using a daily rate (annual salary ÷ working days per year × days actually worked) or a similar calculation based on a pay period. It's the standard way employers calculate pay for an employee who starts, leaves, or takes unpaid leave partway through a pay cycle.
HR and payroll staff use it when onboarding a new hire mid-month, processing a final paycheck for someone who resigns, or docking pay for unpaid leave, so the employee is paid fairly for exactly the days worked.

The answer depends entirely on the day count you choose, and the tool assumes 260 working days a year when the total is left blank. If your employer pays by calendar days, by the month, or counts a different number of working days, use that convention instead, because the same days worked give a different amount. Days worked above the total are capped at the total. Which day-count rule does your payroll use?
