Numerology Life Path Number

What is my life path number?

How it is calculated

The life path number in numerology is an arithmetic reduction of the birth date. The tool writes the date as eight digits, YYYYMMDD, and adds them all. If the sum is larger than 9, the digits of the sum are added again, and this repeats until one digit remains. The exception is the "master numbers" 11, 22 and 33, at which the reduction stops and the number is kept as is.

Enter a valid calendar date, since an unreadable or impossible date, such as 1990-02-31, gives no result. The arithmetic is exact, but the meanings attached to each number are part of a traditional belief system and not a scientific prediction, so treat the result as entertainment and a reflection prompt.

Worked example

Birth date 1990-07-15 becomes the digits 1 9 9 0 0 7 1 5. Their sum is 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 5 = 32. As 32 is above 9 and not a master number, add its digits: 3 + 2 = 5. The tool shows the life path number 5.

Common mistakes

  • Reducing day, month and year separately and then adding; some methods differ, and this tool adds all eight digits of the full date.
  • Using a two-digit year, which changes the digits and the sum.
  • Expecting 11, 22 or 33 to be reduced further; they are kept as master numbers.
  • Taking the number as a prediction rather than a traditional, symbolic interpretation.

About this calculator

This tool calculates a life path number in numerology by reducing the digits of a birth date (day, month and year) down to a single digit through repeated addition, while preserving the special master numbers 11, 22 and 33 instead of reducing them further, since numerology treats those as carrying their own distinct meaning. In numerology theory, the life path number is considered the most important number in a person's chart, said to describe their core personality traits and the general direction of their life.

It is used by people interested in numerology as a form of self-reflection or entertainment, often alongside astrology or other belief-based practices, to explore questions about compatibility, career direction or personal strengths. It's worth noting the calculation itself is a well-defined arithmetic reduction — what the resulting number is said to mean is a matter of numerological tradition rather than anything scientifically verified.

Other numerology sources reduce the day, month and year separately before adding them, and that route can give a different number from this one, which adds all eight digits of the date in one go and only then reduces. So if a result differs from another site, the method is the likely reason, not an error. Treat it as a bit of fun. Which method did you learn, whole-date sum or by parts?
