Result

78 movies/year
6.5 movies/month
780 movies/decade

How it is calculated

The tool takes one number, the average films you watch in a week, and scales it over longer periods. A year is counted as exactly 52 weeks: per year = per week × 52. A month is a twelfth of that, per month = per week × 52 ÷ 12, and a decade is ten years, per decade = per week × 520. The yearly and decade totals are rounded to whole numbers, the monthly figure to one decimal, so a small weekly value such as 0.2 shows 10 films a year and 104 a decade. The weekly value can be a fraction, for example 0.5 for one film every second week, but it must be above zero; zero or negative values give no result. It assumes your pace stays constant. Rewatches count as films, and using 52 weeks means the extra day of the calendar year and leap years are ignored.

Worked example

Suppose you watch on average 1.5 films a week, say three every two weeks. Per year: 1.5 × 52 = 78, shown as 78 movies/year. Per month: 1.5 × 52 ÷ 12 = 6.5 films. Per decade: 1.5 × 520 = 780 films. Seeing 780 puts an ordinary habit into perspective, though it keeps the pace constant for ten years.

Common mistakes

  • Entering the monthly or yearly count in the weekly field. The box is films per week; if you see 6 a month, type about 1.4, not 6.
  • Counting episodes of a series as films. A season of 10 episodes is not 10 movies unless you want it counted that way.
  • Using the best week of the year as the average. Include weeks with no movies, so the figure is a realistic long-term average.
  • Entering 0 for a week with nothing watched. The tool needs a value above zero, so use a small average such as 0.2 instead.
  • Expecting an exact calendar match. A year is 52 weeks here, so the result is a close estimate, not a count from a viewing log.

About this calculator

Turning a weekly habit into a bigger-picture number is simple multiplication: movies per week × 52 gives the yearly total, dividing that by 12 gives a monthly average, and multiplying the yearly figure by 10 projects a per-decade total — scaling a small, easy-to-estimate number into a total that's often surprisingly large.

Movie fans, letterboxd loggers, and film-club members use this mostly for fun — to see just how many films a “two movies a week” habit adds up to over a year (104) or a decade (1,040), putting a concrete number on a viewing habit that usually just feels routine.

Instead of guessing a weekly pace, count what you actually watched over the last eight weeks and divide. A habit of three films a week gives 156 a year here, but a few busy months can pull the real average well below that. Because the tool counts rewatches as films, decide beforehand whether you want them in. How many films a week does your honest count come to?
