Mocking Case Text Generator

Type any text to convert it into mocking alternating-case meme text.

How it is calculated

The tool walks through your text one character at a time and keeps a single on/off switch. For each plain Latin letter (A to Z) it writes the letter in lowercase when the switch is off or uppercase when it is on, then flips the switch. Spaces, digits, punctuation and emoji are copied unchanged and do not flip the switch, so the up-down rhythm runs across words rather than restarting at every word.

The first letter is always lowercase. Letters outside A to Z, such as ç, ö, é or ñ, are copied exactly as typed and are not counted in the alternation. Empty input gives no result.

Worked example

Input: This is so stupid. The letters are T, h, i, s, i, s, s, o, s, t, u, p, i, d. The first becomes lowercase, the second uppercase, and so on, while the spaces are left alone and do not affect the pattern. Result: tHiS iS sO sTuPiD. Because the switch carries across spaces, “so” comes out as “sO” rather than starting over with a lowercase pair.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting the first letter to be uppercase. The tool starts with a lowercase letter, so “Hello” becomes “hElLo”.
  • Expecting the pattern to restart on every word. Spaces do not reset it, so the same word can look different depending on what came before it.
  • Typing accented or Turkish letters (ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü) and expecting them to alternate. They stay as you typed them and are skipped by the count, which makes the rhythm uneven.
  • Expecting digits or punctuation to take part in the pattern. They are copied unchanged and never flip the switch.
  • Pasting the result where text is case-sensitive, such as a password or username, and then being surprised that the original case is lost.

About this calculator

The SpongeBob mocking text meme — formally an alternating-case transformation — flips every other letter of a phrase between uppercase and lowercase, starting with a lowercase letter and producing text like “tHiS iS sO sTuPiD” that visually mimics a sarcastic, sing-song tone of voice. The format spread from a 2017 meme template showing a distorted image of SpongeBob SquarePants and is now used broadly across social media as shorthand for mocking or belittling something someone said.

This generator applies the alternating-case pattern to any text you type or paste, character by character, skipping spaces and punctuation so the rhythm lands on letters only; it alternates plain A–Z letters, so accented or non-Latin letters pass through unchanged.

Social media users, meme makers, and moderators or commenters replying sarcastically to a post use it to quickly produce the mocking-case version of a quote or comment without manually retyping each letter's case by hand, which is tedious and error-prone for anything longer than a few words.
