Easter Date Calculator
Find the date of Easter Sunday for any year.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool runs the Anonymous Gregorian (Meeus/Jones/Butcher) computus using only whole-number division and remainders. From the year it derives a = year mod 19, the century b and year-in-century c, then a correction h for the moon and l for the weekday, and finally month = (h + l − 7m + 114) div 31 and day = (h + l − 7m + 114) mod 31 + 1. It returns the date as year-month-day plus the month and day numbers. Only years 1583 to 4099 are accepted; outside that range the tool gives no result. The result is the Western (Gregorian) Easter; Orthodox churches that use the Julian calendar often celebrate on a different date.
Worked example
Year 2025: a = 2025 mod 19 = 11; b = 20, c = 25. Then d = 5, e = 0, f = 1, g = 6, so h = (19×11 + 20 − 5 − 6 + 15) mod 30 = 233 mod 30 = 23. With i = 6 and k = 1, l = (32 + 0 + 12 − 23 − 1) mod 7 = 6, and m = 0. Month = (23 + 6 + 114) div 31 = 4, day = 143 mod 31 + 1 = 20. Result: 2025-04-20, a Sunday in April.
Common mistakes
- Expecting a date for years before 1583; the Gregorian calendar did not exist then, and the tool returns nothing for them.
- Comparing the result with the Orthodox Easter date, which is calculated on the Julian calendar and is frequently a different Sunday.
- Entering a two-digit year such as 25 instead of 2025.
- Treating the astronomical full moon as the basis; the method uses the church's tabulated moon, so it can differ from the real sky.

About this calculator
This calculator finds the date of Gregorian Easter Sunday for any year using the computus algorithm (commonly the Anonymous/Meeus method), which locates the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon occurring on or after the spring equinox — a rule fixed by the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD.
Event planners, church administrators, school calendar-makers, and developers building calendar or holiday-scheduling software use it because Easter's date shifts every year (between March 22 and April 25) and it anchors many other moveable holidays like Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, and Pentecost.

This gives Western Easter, which is the date most calendars and school holidays are built from. Other movable dates are simple counts from it: Good Friday is two days earlier, Ash Wednesday 46 days earlier and Pentecost Sunday 49 days later. For 2026 the tool returns April 5. Orthodox churches use a different rule and often a different Sunday, though in 2025 the dates coincided. Which Easter-linked date do you plan around?
