Due Date from IVF Transfer Calculator

Find days and weeks left to your due date from an IVF embryo transfer.

How it is calculated

The due date is placed 266 days after conception, so counting from the transfer day it is 266 minus the embryo's age at transfer. The tool then subtracts the days that have already passed:

days to due = 266 − embryo age − days since transfer

weeks to due = days to due ÷ 7

Embryo age is in days (1 to 7; day 3 for a cleavage-stage embryo, day 5 for a blastocyst) and days since transfer is how long ago the transfer was (0 or more). Results are shown with two decimals. The tool gives time remaining, not a calendar date: it has no date field, so add the days to today's date yourself. If more than 266 − age days have passed, or the age is outside 1 to 7, it returns no result. Clinics may adjust dating after early scans.

Worked example

A day-5 blastocyst was transferred 30 days ago.

Days from transfer to due date = 266 − 5 = 261.

Days remaining = 261 − 30 = 231.00 days.

Weeks remaining = 231 ÷ 7 = 33.00 weeks, which is exactly 33 weeks to go. On the day of transfer itself (0 days since transfer) the same embryo would show 261.00 days, or 37.29 weeks.

Common mistakes

  • Entering the age of the pregnancy or the number of embryos instead of the embryo's age on the day of transfer. A day-5 blastocyst is 5, not 5 weeks.
  • Using the day of egg retrieval as days since transfer, or counting from the pregnancy test or the beta hCG date. The field needs the days since the transfer itself.
  • Entering the age of a frozen embryo as the number of days it was frozen. For a frozen transfer the embryo age is still its developmental day (3 or 5) at freezing.
  • Entering 0 for the embryo age, or a value above 7. The tool accepts 1 to 7 only and otherwise shows nothing.
  • Reading 35.93 weeks as 35 weeks and 93 days. The decimals are a fraction of a week, so multiply by 7 (0.93 × 7 is about 6.5 days).

Due dates calculated from an IVF cycle use the embryo transfer date instead of the last menstrual period, because IVF pinpoints the exact age of the embryo at transfer — a day-3 cleavage-stage embryo or a day-5 blastocyst — which is far more precise than estimating ovulation timing from a reported LMP. The standard method is: due date = transfer date + 266 days − embryo age at transfer (so 263 days out for a day-3 transfer, or 261 days for a day-5 blastocyst transfer), which mirrors the standard 40-week (280-day) pregnancy count measured from a theoretical last period.

Fertility clinics and the patients going through IVF or FET (frozen embryo transfer) cycles use this transfer-based calculation because it removes the ambiguity of a patient's actual ovulation date, giving a more reliable estimated due date for prenatal care scheduling than a standard LMP-based estimate would. It's presented to patients right after a positive pregnancy test to set expectations for the pregnancy timeline ahead.

This calculator takes the embryo's age at transfer in days (for example day 3 or day 5) and the number of days since the transfer, and returns the days and weeks remaining until your due date. It does not show a calendar date — add the days remaining to today's date, or 266 minus the embryo's age to the transfer date, to get it.
