Day of the Week Calculator
Find the weekday for any date.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool reads the date you type, converts it to a calendar day with the Gregorian calendar and returns the name of the weekday in the page language. Internally the weekday is a number from 1 (Monday) to 7 (Sunday) taken from that date, then mapped to its name. The date can be written as YYYY-MM-DD, which is the safest form, or in other common formats such as "17 October 2026". Empty or unreadable input, a bare year such as 2026, and a date that does not exist, such as 2026-02-30, give no result. Formats with slashes are read in month/day/year order and those with dashes in day-month-year order, so a date like 03/04/2026 means 4 March, not 3 April. Only the calendar date is used; time zones do not matter.
Worked example
Enter 2026-10-17. The tool converts the year, month and day to a calendar date and works out which of the seven weekdays it falls on. 17 October 2026 is a Saturday, weekday number 6. The same date in Turkish is shown as Cumartesi. Adding 7 days, 24 October 2026, falls on the same weekday.
Common mistakes
- Typing a date in day/month/year with slashes. Slashes are read as month/day/year, so 13/10/2026 fails and 03/04/2026 gives the wrong day. Use YYYY-MM-DD.
- Mixing up the first day of the week. Monday is 1 here, whereas some calendars start the week on Sunday.
- Entering only a month and year, or only a day. A full date with day, month and year is needed, and it must exist: 2026-02-30 gives no result.
- Assuming it works for an old date under a different calendar. The Gregorian calendar is applied throughout, so historical dates before its adoption may differ from the weekday people used then.
- Expecting the result to change with time zone. Only the date counts, not the time of day.
About this calculator
This calculator determines which day of the week any calendar date falls on, using the same date-arithmetic logic as Zeller's congruence — accounting correctly for leap years and the Gregorian calendar's rules — so it works for dates far in the past or future, not just the current year.
It's used to check what weekday a historical event happened on, to figure out the weekday of a birthday or anniversary in a given year, or to plan an event on a specific future date without having to flip through a calendar.

A handy use is planning repeating events. A date moves one weekday later from one year to the next, because 365 days is 52 weeks plus one day, and two weekdays later when a 29 February falls in between. So a birthday on a Tuesday this year is a Wednesday next year, unless a leap day intervenes. Check the date you typed reads as the day you intended before trusting the answer. Which date do you most often need to look up?
