Crypto Portfolio Allocation Calculator

See exactly how to split your crypto investment across BTC, ETH, and altcoins.

How it is calculated

The total is cut into three target slices by percentage: BTC = total × btc% ÷ 100, ETH = total × eth% ÷ 100 and altcoins = total × altcoin% ÷ 100. Whatever is not assigned is reported as cash_remaining = total − BTC − ETH − altcoins, for example a stablecoin or cash reserve. The three percentages can add up to less than 100 but not more, and at least one must be above zero. The total must be above zero. The result is a set of target dollar amounts for a given total, not coin quantities: it does not use live prices, so you still divide each amount by the current price to get units. Fees, taxes and later price moves that shift the weights are not included.

Worked example

You have $10,000 to invest with targets of 50% Bitcoin, 30% Ethereum and 15% altcoins. Bitcoin: 10,000 × 50% = $5,000.00. Ethereum: 10,000 × 30% = $3,000.00. Altcoins: 10,000 × 15% = $1,500.00. The targets add up to 95%, so the remaining 5% stays as cash: 10,000 − 5,000 − 3,000 − 1,500 = $500.00.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting a coin quantity. The tool gives money amounts only; to find how many coins that buys, divide by the current price yourself.
  • Entering weights that add up to more than 100. The tool returns nothing, so keep the three together at 100 or below.
  • Ignoring the cash remaining line. If the weights add to 95, the other 5% is simply unassigned, so decide whether it is a reserve or should go into one of the coins.
  • Treating the weights as permanent. After a price rally the actual shares drift away from the targets, and this calculator works from a fresh total, not from your current holdings.
  • Typing 0.5 instead of 50 for a half. That reads as 0.5% and only a sliver of the money is allocated.

About this calculator

Crypto portfolio allocation is the practice of dividing a total investment across different cryptocurrencies according to target percentage weights — typically a mix like Bitcoin (often the largest, ‘core’ holding due to its liquidity and relative track record), Ethereum (the leading smart-contract platform), and a basket of altcoins for higher-risk, higher-potential-reward exposure. This mirrors the traditional-finance concept of strategic asset allocation, adapted to a market known for far higher volatility and correlation swings than stocks or bonds.

Retail crypto investors and portfolio-tracking tools use target-weight allocation to decide how to split new capital or to identify when a portfolio has drifted from its intended weights after a rally in one asset (a scenario that commonly calls for rebalancing — selling some of the outperformer and buying more of the underperformer to restore the target mix), since letting winners run unchecked can quietly concentrate risk in a single coin far beyond the investor's original intention.

This calculator takes your total investment amount and your target percentage weights for BTC, ETH, and altcoins, and returns the exact dollar amount to allocate to each so you can execute your intended split. The three weights may add up to at most 100%; whatever is left over is shown as the cash remaining.
