Credit Utilization Calculator
Find your credit utilization ratio.
Result
How it is calculated
Credit utilization is the share of your available credit that you are using: utilization = total balances / total limits × 100. Enter the combined balance of all cards and the combined limit of all cards in the same currency. The tool rates the result with fixed thresholds: below 30% is Good, from 30% up to 50% is Fair, and 50% or more is High. The limit must be greater than zero. A balance above the limit is allowed and gives a figure over 100%. These bands are a common rule of thumb; lenders and scoring models each use their own methods, and the tool does not predict a credit score.
Worked example
Balances of 1,800 on cards with a combined limit of 8,000. Utilization = 1,800 / 8,000 × 100 = 22.50%. That is under 30%, so it falls in the Good band. To stay below 30% on this limit, the balance would have to stay under 2,400.
Common mistakes
- Using the limit of a single card against the balance of all cards.
- Counting only the statement balance when the balance reported to lenders may be a different day's figure.
- Including a loan or mortgage: revolving credit cards are what this ratio measures.
- Closing an unused card and forgetting that it lowers the combined limit and raises utilization.
- Assuming 30% is a hard line; the bands are a rule of thumb, not a lender's rule.

About this calculator
This calculator divides your total credit card balances by your total credit limits and multiplies by 100 to get your credit utilization ratio, then rates it against common thresholds — utilization under roughly 30% is generally considered good for credit scoring purposes, and under 10% is even better.
It's used by anyone monitoring or trying to improve their credit score before applying for a loan or mortgage, since utilization is one of the most heavily weighted factors in most credit scoring models, second only to payment history.

The tool works on any balance and limit pair, so try your cards one at a time as well as combined. A single card near its limit can look different from a healthy overall figure, and some lenders may weigh that. To find a target balance, multiply your limit by 0.3. The 30% band is a US-style rule of thumb, so check how your own lender treats it. What combined limit are you working with?
