Cookie Dough Scoop Calculator
Enter your dough batch weight and scoop size to count the cookies.
Result
How it is calculated
The tool uses whole-cookie division: cookies = ⌊dough ÷ scoop⌋ and leftover = dough − cookies × scoop. Both inputs are weights in grams, the total weight of the dough and the weight of one scoop, so they must use the same unit. The result is rounded down to a whole number because a partial scoop does not make a cookie; whatever remains is shown as leftover dough in grams, together with your scoop weight to two decimals.
Both values must be greater than zero, otherwise no result appears. If the scoop is heavier than the whole batch you get 0 cookies and all of the dough as leftover. A tiny tolerance is built in so that exact fits are not lost to decimal rounding: 0.3 ÷ 0.1 counts as exactly 3 cookies with no leftover. The tool counts dough only; it does not know about dough stuck to the bowl or how much a cookie spreads.
Worked example
You mixed 1200 g of dough and use a scoop that portions 45 g. Division: 1200 ÷ 45 = 26.67, which rounds down to 26 cookies. Dough used: 26 × 45 = 1170 g. Leftover: 1200 − 1170 = 30.00 g, which is less than one scoop. If you want 27 cookies from the same scoop, you would need 27 × 45 = 1215 g, so about 15 g more dough.
Common mistakes
- Entering the scoop size in tablespoons, millilitres or scoop number instead of grams. The field divides weights, so a “number 40 scoop” must first be converted to the grams of dough it actually holds.
- Using the weight of one ingredient instead of the finished dough weight. Dough weight is the total after mixing, including chips and nuts.
- Expecting the tool to round up. With 1200 g and a 45 g scoop the 0.67 of a cookie left over is not counted; it shows as leftover grams.
- Ignoring dough lost in the bowl and on tools. Real batches often give one cookie fewer than the calculation, so weigh what you actually scoop.
- Confusing raw scoop weight with the weight of a baked cookie. Cookies lose water in the oven, so the baked weight is lower than the scoop.
About this calculator
Turning a batch of cookie dough into evenly sized cookies is a simple division problem in practice, but one that's easy to get wrong by eye — scoop too generously and you'll run short of dough for a full tray, scoop too small and you'll have leftovers and inconsistent bake times. Bakers typically use a standard scoop size (commonly measured in tablespoons or a numbered ice-cream-scoop size) to keep every cookie the same size, which matters because cookie thickness and diameter directly affect how evenly they bake.
This calculator divides your total dough weight by your chosen scoop size to tell you how many cookies a batch will yield, plus any dough left over that doesn't make a full scoop. It's a handy planning tool for home bakers and small bakeries figuring out how many trays a recipe will fill or how much dough to make for a specific cookie count.
