Body Temperature Conversion Calculator
Enter a body temperature and its unit to convert and see the deviation from normal.
Result
How it is calculated
The unit selector decides the direction. For Fahrenheit input the engine computes C = (F - 32) × 5 / 9; for Celsius input it computes F = C × 9 / 5 + 32. The value you typed is passed through unchanged for its own unit. The deviation is then deviation = C - 37, always taken from 37 °C, so a positive number means above that reference and a negative number below it. All three results are rounded to one decimal place for display. The tool does not say whether a reading counts as a fever; it only converts and subtracts, and only a value below absolute zero is rejected, so a reading impossible for a person is still converted.
Worked example
A thermometer reads 101.3 °F. Step 1: subtract 32, giving 69.3. Step 2: multiply by 5, giving 346.5, and divide by 9, giving 38.5. The reading is 38.5 °C. Step 3: the deviation from 37 °C is 38.5 - 37 = 1.5 °C. The results are shown as 38.5 °C, 101.3 °F and a deviation of 1.5 °C.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the unit on Celsius while typing a Fahrenheit reading such as 101.3; the tool then treats it as 101.3 °C and reports a deviation of about 64 °C.
- Reading the deviation as a percentage or as a Fahrenheit difference; it is in degrees Celsius, and one Celsius degree equals 1.8 Fahrenheit degrees.
- Treating 37 °C as a limit that every healthy person sits on; it is only the fixed reference for the deviation, and individual readings vary with time of day and measuring site.
- Typing the number with a unit symbol, a thousands separator or other text; the engine reads only a plain number and returns no result otherwise.
- Rounding the reading before converting, for example typing 101 instead of 101.3, which shifts the Celsius result by about 0.2 °C.

About this calculator
This body temperature converter switches a reading between Celsius and Fahrenheit using F = C × 9/5 + 32 and C = (F − 32) × 5/9, then compares the result against the widely cited normal core temperature of 37 °C (98.6 °F) to show how many degrees above or below normal you are.
Because thermometers sold in the US display Fahrenheit while most of the rest of the world — and nearly all medical literature — uses Celsius, a mismatch between the device and the reference range you were given is a common source of confusion. Parents checking a child's fever, nurses charting vitals, and travelers using a thermometer bought abroad use this calculator to convert instantly and see at a glance whether a reading like 38.5 °C or 101 °F falls inside or outside the normal 36.1–37.2 °C range.

Handy when a thermometer or a medical record uses the other scale: 100.4 °F converts to 38.0 °C. The tool only converts and subtracts 37, it does not judge a reading, and the measuring site (mouth, ear, forehead) changes what is usual. If a reading worries you, ask a doctor. Which direction do you convert most often, and from which kind of thermometer?
