Working Hours Between Dates Calculator
Enter a start and end date with daily hours to total the working hours in between.

How it is calculated
The tool walks through every calendar day from the start date to the end date, including both, and counts it as a business day when it falls on Monday to Friday:
working hours = business days × hours per day
It also reports the total number of calendar days in the range. Only the date part counts: any time of day you add is ignored, so a start at 15:00 still counts that whole day. Hours per day must be above 0 and at most 24, and the end date must not be before the start date; otherwise nothing is returned. A start and end on the same weekday count as 1 business day. Public holidays, leave and half days are not removed, as the tool has no holiday calendar, so subtract them yourself.
Worked example
Start Wednesday 4 March 2026, end Wednesday 18 March 2026, 7.5 hours per day. Counting both end dates gives 15 calendar days. Weekdays: Wed 4, Thu 5 and Fri 6 make 3; Monday 9 to Friday 13 makes 5; Monday 16, Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 make 3. That is 11 business days. Multiply: 11 × 7.5 = 82.50 h. The two weekends (7-8 and 14-15 March) account for the 4 days that were left out.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting that the end date is included. A Monday-to-Friday range counts 5 business days, not 4, so do not move the end date back by one.
- Expecting public holidays to be subtracted. They are not, so a range with a national holiday overstates the hours by that day times your hours per day.
- Entering a time with the date to count part of a day. The time is ignored, and a start at 15:00 still counts a full day of hours.
- Typing the weekly hours, such as 40, in the hours-per-day field. The field is multiplied by business days, and values above 24 return nothing.
- Assuming a work week with Saturday or a Sunday-to-Thursday week. The tool always treats Saturday and Sunday as days off.
About this calculator
This calculator counts the number of business days (Monday through Friday) between a start and end date, excluding weekends, then multiplies that count by the hours per day you enter to give total working hours across the range. It doesn't assume any particular workday length or account for public holidays unless you factor those in separately.
HR and payroll administrators, project managers, and freelancers or contractors billing by the hour use working-hours totals like this to estimate labor cost across a date range, set project timelines, or reconcile time sheets against an expected number of billable hours for a period.

Treat the result as the ceiling on available hours, not on productive ones. The default June 2026 range gives 22 business days and 176 hours before anything is removed. For an estimate or invoice, subtract public holidays, leave and meetings yourself, since the tool only skips weekends. Both the first and the last day are counted, so decide whether that matches your agreement. Which country's holidays do you need to subtract?
