Basis Points to Percent Converter

How it is calculated

One basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point, so the tool uses a single factor of 100. Basis points to percent: percent = bps ÷ 100. Percent to basis points: bps = percent × 100. The direction setting decides which formula runs; the value is always the number you typed, in the unit of the chosen direction.

Results are rounded to two decimals. The tool also repeats your input in its own unit and converts the answer back as a round-trip check. Because every figure is rounded to two decimals, a very small bps value such as 0.5 bps becomes 0.01% rather than 0.005%. Negative values work and keep their sign, so −50 bps is −0.50%. The tool converts units only; it does not add a change to a rate.

Common mistakes

• Choosing the wrong direction. Typing 0.25 with “bps to percent” gives 0.0025%, which is 0.25 of a basis point, not a quarter of a percent.
• Mixing up percentage points and percent. A rate that goes from 4% to 4.25% rose 25 bps (0.25 percentage points), but only about 6.25% in relative terms. The tool converts the first and does not compute the second.
• Reading two-decimal output as exact for tiny values. Half a basis point is 0.005%, but it is displayed as 0.01%.
• Applying the factor 10 instead of 100, perhaps from “per mille” confusion. 100 bps equals 1%, 10 bps equals 0.10%.
• Typing a decimal comma (2,5) in the value. The field expects a point, so 2.5.
